The Power of the Holy Face of Jesus

Romans 8:38,”For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor might shall separate us from the love of Christ.”

The Golden Arrow:  Our Lord imparted His revelations about Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus to Sister Mary of St. Peter and of the Holy Family, a Carmelite Nun of Tours, France.

Pope Leo XIII approved on September 15, 1886, the Devotion of the Holy Face.  The Archconfraternity of the Holy Face was erected in the Oratory of Venerable Leo Dupont in perpetuity; and it participates in the duration and in the permanence of the Church itself.

This devotion, to honor the sorrowful Face of Jesus, has the two-fold purpose of Reparation for Blasphemy against the Holy Name of God and for Reparation for the profanation of Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation. The two principal sins, in modern times which are provoking the anger of God.  Sr. Mary of St. Peter said, “Our Lord then made me see that this frightful sin wounds His Divine Heart more grievously than all other sins, showing me how by blasphemy the sinner curses Him to His Face, attacks Him publicly, nullifies His Redemption, and pronounces his own judgement and condemnation.....The Savior made me understand that His justice was greatly irritated against mankind for its sins but particularly for those that directly outrage the Majesty of God--that is Communism, Atheism, cursing, and the desecration of Sundays and the Holy Days. Jesus said, “The executioners crucified Me on Friday; “Christians crucify Me on Sunday.  Our Lord further said, “My name is everywhere blasphemed! I give you My Name to be your light in the darkness and your strength in battle. Satan will do all in his power to crush this Work at its roots. But I assure you that the Holy Name of God will triumph, and it will be the Holy Angels who will gain the victory in the conflict.” (Our Lord to Sr. Mary of St. Peter Nov. 18, 1843)

Also, “Our Lord showed me this Association as an Army of brave soldiers, uniting themselves to Jesus as their Commander-in-Chief, to defend the glory of His Father.  It is His Will that this militia be called “The Defenders of the Holy Name of God,” so that this noble title should give evidence of the high calling of those enrolled.

Finally, Our Lord told me that He desired each member to wear a special Protection Cross. To all those wearing this Holy Cross, Our Lord promised a special resourcefulness to conquer the demon of blasphemy. I then felt that I would willingly shed the last drop of my blood for such a holy association.

Our Lord told Sister Marie de Saint-Piere on March 16, 1844, "Oh, if you only knew what great merit you acquire by saying even once, in the spirit of reparation of blasphemy!"

Admirable is the Holy Name of God!

Promises of the Holy FACE

  1. I will grant them contrition so perfect that their very sins shall be changed in My sight into jewels of precious gold.
  2. By My Holy Face, you shall work miracles, appease the anger of God and draw down mercy on sinners.
  3. According to the care they    take in making reparation to My Face, disfigured by blasphemers, so will I take care of their souls which have been disfigured by sin. My Face is the Seal of the Divinity which has the virtue of reproducing in souls the image of God.
  4. All those who by words, prayers or writing defend My cause in this Work of Reparation, I will defend before My Father and would give them His Kingdom.  This promise extend to priests.
  5. At their death, I will purify their souls by effacing all the blots of sin and will restore to them their primitive beauty.
  6. As in a kingdom they can procure all that is desired with a coin stamped with the King’s effigy, so in the Kingdom of Heaven they will obtain all they desire with the precious coin of My Holy Face.
  7. Those who on earth contemplate the wounds of My Face shall in Heaven behold it radiant with glory.
  8. They will receive in their souls a bright and constant irradiation of My Divinity, that by their likeness to My Face they shall shine with particular splendor in Heaven.
  9. I will defend them, I will preserve them and I assure them of Final Perseverance.
  10. All those who honor My Holy Face in a spirit of reparation, will by so doing perform the office of the pious Veronica.
  11. Nothing that you ask in making this offering will be refused to you; and the conversion of many sinners will be obtained.. Oh, if you only knew, how pleasing is the sight of My Face to My Father!”

Our Lord to Sr. Mary of St. Peter: “Our Lord told me that He desired each member to wear a “Special Holy Protection Cross, and that on one side of this cross should be engraved the words, “Blessed be the Name of God” and on the reverse side should be the words “Begone Satan.”

In her vision, she was transported to the road to Calvary and saw St. Veronica wiping away the spit and mud from His Holy Face with her veil. Sister realized that the taking of the Name of God in vain and all the other sacrilegious and blasphemous acts that men do fall on the Lord's Face like that spit and mud that St. Veronica so lovingly wiped away. Jesus revealed to Sister that He desired devotion to His Holy Face in reparation for sacrilege, profanation of Sunday, and blasphemy, which He described to her as being like a "poisoned arrow." It also embraced reparation for all of the attacks against Religion and Holy Church, since these constitute a form of blasphemy.

To her, He dictated the prayer which has become known as "The Golden Arrow" and which honors His Holy Name and that those who will contemplate the wounds on His Face here on earth shall contemplate it radiant in heaven.

May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and unutterable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified, in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.

After receiving this prayer, Sister Mary of St. Peter was given a vision in which she saw the Sacred Heart of Jesus delightfully wounded by this "Golden Arrow" as torrents of graces streamed from It for the conversion of sinners.

Our Lord revealed to Sr. Mary of St. Peter that He desired each member of the Confraternity to wear a special Cross.  Jesus told Sr. Mary of St. Peter that on the front side of the Cross, these words should be engraved:  “Sit Nomen Domini Benedictum” (Blessed be the Name of God) and on the reverse side of the Cross “Vade retro, Satana (Be gone, Satan).  The Crossbeam shows the Sacred Heart emblem on the right side and the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the left side.  These Hearts remind us that Jesus and Mary go together to oppose the crimes of blasphemy and the profanation of Sundays and Holydays, which so deeply anger God.  The Confraternity members have a double purpose to repair:  Blasphemy against the Holy Name and the desecration of Sunday and Holydays (The Holy Eucharist). (Holy Face Manual page 20)

“Those who by words, prayers or writings defend My cause in the Work of Reparation, especially My priests, I will defend before My Father, and will give them My Kingdom.– Jesus to Sr. Mary of St. Peter

Our Blessed Lady to Mother Maria-Pierina: "Listen carefully, this devotion is an armor of defense, a shield of strength, a token of the love and mercy which Jesus wishes to give the world in these times of sensuality and hatred against God and His Church. Diabolical nets are thrown to wrench the true Faith from hearts, evils abound, true apostles are few. Among the powerful remedies to these evils is the Holy Face of Jesus.

The Face of Jesus radiates light, warmth and life. “Frequently during her meditations, St. Gertrude saw the Divine Countenance of our Savior resplendent as the sun, illuminating priests, inflaming the devout and converting sinners. Once she asked why the blessed Countenance of our Redeemer shone like the sun, and she received this explanation:  “Like the sun, My Countenance illuminates, warms and fructifies.”

The books mentioned above are essential for greater depth, practice, development, and understanding of the Holy Face Devotion. Pages 134 and 135 of the Golden Arrow:  The Commander-in-Chief for this militia is Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself.  The Rules would oblige members to refrain from all Sunday work themselves, and to do what lay in their power to see that others stop all unnecessary servile works on the holy days of the Lord (Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation) and from buying and selling on Sundays and holy days of the Lord.  To all wearing this Holy Protection Cross, every time one hears a curse, he should repeat the two short inscriptions written on each side of the cross, “Blessed be the Name of God” and “Begone, Satan!”  He will thus overcome the evil one and render glory to God.  On Sunday and on Feast days, all the Prayers of Reparation are to be recited. These prayers of Reparation are joined to Jesus’ perfect reparation for the sins of man.

The worship of His divine Face, is intimately attached to the devotion to the Holy Eucharist and to the Passion.  These great devotions, which are so eminently Catholic and so strongly recommended, are useful aid.  The worship of His Divine Face illuminates and helps fervent souls to enter more easily into meditation on the mysteries and love of Our Lord; it disposes the faithful to the more generous and the most heroic acts of penitence and reparation.

“I have prayed to and entreated Thy Face, O Lord; have pity on me according to Thy promise, save me in Thy mercy; no, I shall never be confounded, because I have called upon Thee.   O Lord, show us Thy Face, and we shall be saved!”
