True Devotion to Mary

Honor Thy Mother all the days of her life; for thou must be mindful what and how great perils she suffered for thee. (Tobias 4:3-4)

St. Louis Marie de Montfort says, “Saints are molded in Mary.”“....towards the end of the world, ....Almighty God and His holy Mother are to raise up saints who will surpass in holiness most other saints as much as the cedars of Lebanon tower above little shrubs.”

On True Devotion to Mary

By: St. Louis Grignion de Montfort

“When the Holy Spirit, her spouse, finds Mary in a soul, He hastens there and enters fully into it. He gives Himself generously to that soul according to the place it has given to His spouse.  Mary received from God a far-reaching dominion over the souls of the elect.  She had received from the Almighty rights and authority over their souls.  For God, having given her power over His only-begotten and natural Son, also gave her power over His adopted children - not only in what concerns their body - which would be of little account - but also in what concerns their soul.

Transformation of the faithful soul by Mary into the likeness of Jesus Christ – If Mary is well cultivated in our soul by fidelity to the practice of this devotion, she will bear her fruit in her own time, and her fruit in none other than JESUS CHRIST.  I will espouse thee to me in faith: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord (Hosea 2:20).

Those who advance as to make this devotion his habitual state, he alone to whom the spirit of Jesus Christ shall have revealed this secret, the faultlessly faithful soul whom He shall conduct Himself, to advance from virtue to virtue, from grace to grace, from light to light, until he arrives at the TRANSFORMATION OF himself INTO JESUS CHRIST and to the plenitude of His age on earth and of His glory in Heaven.

MARY IS THE BELOVED DAUGHTER OF THE ETERNAL FATHER, THE ADMIRABLE MOTHER OF THE SON, AND THE FAITHFUL SPOUSE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mediatix of Grace or the Treasury of Grace from the merits and virtues of Jesus Christ and His heritage and Dispenser of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  No heavenly gift is given to men which does not pass through her virginal hands.

CHAIN OF LOVE AND SALVATION

(Manual PGS 123-125) – His chains are chains of salvation (Ecclus. 6:31) – The chained of Christ (Eph. 3:1) – The bands of love (Hosea 11:4)

Prayers and acts recommended connected to the Incarnation:

       a.  The Angelus.

       b.  Lifelong bowing or genuflection to the Mystery of the Incarnation in the Angelus or the Creed.

       c. Renewal of the Act of Consecration especially on 25 March, the Feast of the Incarnation.

       d.  Praying the “Hail Mary,” the great moment of the Incarnation-God became man.

       e.  Praying the Holy Rosary – for the heartbeat of the Holy Rosary is “Hail Mary.”

       f.  Praying the “Little Crown of the Virgin Mary.”

        g. Praying the Song of joy, “Magnificat.”

       h. Regular self-emptying by saying “no” to self—by saying no to our appetites and impulses.

       i. By wearing a “Chain of Holy Slavery” – it is a sign of belonging to Jesus through Mary.  The Holy Rosary itself is a chain which is a joining and binding. So, also, the “Chain of Holy Slavery” is the joining and binding of one self to the “Bond of Love” of Jesus and Mary. As Jesus, Himself in Philippians 2, took the form of a slave, Our Lady in the Annunciation responded by saying “Behold the handmaid (slave) of Lord, and St. Paul called himself “Slave of Jesus Christ,” so too are those who made the Act of Consecration made that consecration to fully belong to Jesus and Mary by calling themselves "Slave of Jesus Christ" as St. Paul did and by wearing a chain to manifest this "Holy Slavery" outwardly. (Note: Slave is fully surrendered to its Master for it belongs to its Master, but a servant does not belong to its Master.)
