Youth Faith Formation K5-5th grade including First Communion and Confirmation

Faith Formation

is a life long pursuit. You began at baptism and end when you leave this world to be with Christ in heaven. The staff and parish members of St. Theresa the Little Flower want to support your family in all stages of your life. As the Director of Faith Formation my job is to support you the parents in the faith education of your child. You are the primary models of the Catholic faith for your child/children. The Catechists and I are here to walk beside your family and help you grow in the knowledge and love of Christ. In order to enroll your children in our faith formation program you must be a registered, active member of our parish. We define active members as those who attend Mass at our parish on Saturday evening/Sunday morning, contribute financially to our parish, and serve our parish in some capacity.

This year we will offer faith formation for k4-5th grade on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:30am. We are going to call our Sunday morning program SAINTS in Training. Each class will have a patron saint and we will learn about the saints and celebrate their feast days.

Second grade is for First Communion preparation. You will need to submit a copy of your child's baptism certificate at the time of registration, and your child has to have attended faith formation the year prior to being enrolled in the First Communion class.

IgKnight middle school group (6th-7th grade) will meet on Tuesdays from 5-7pm.  Your child must attend our middle school program in order to attend Confirmation in the 8th grade. If you have specific inquiries about this ministry please contact Richard White at youthministry@sttheresachurch.com

Confirmation is a two year process beginning in the eighth grade. Your child must have participated in our middle school program in order to register for Confirmaiton. We meet from 5-7pm Sunday evenings. Rising ninth graders who attended our faith formation program in 7-8th grade will be confirmed in the spring of 2022. We are hoping for a Confirmation date of June 4, 2022, but please wait to until that date is confirmed. Weekend Mass attendance, attendance on Sunday, participation in our youth group, retreat attendance, completing service hours and a Saint presentation are all mandatory required elements for Confirmation. We will be using Chosen by Ascension Press as our primary curriculum. Each student will be given a workbook which they will be required to bring to each class. I highly recommend you purchase them a Catholic Bible if they don't have one. My recommendation is the Catholic Youth Bible from St. Marys Press. They will need to complete some work at home.  Our hope is that by the time they are confirmed they will have grown in their knowledge and love of Christ and realized that their relationship with Christ is an ongoing process.

We would like as many of you as are able to register and pay your fees online. You do not need to create an account to pay online, but it will simplify the payment process if you do. It has been set up so that each fee is paid for separately. If you have a child in First Holy Communion or Confirmation those fees need to be paid separate from the regular religious education fee. For example, if you have a child in 1st grade, First Holy Communion, and 4th grade you would pay the education fee for two children and the First Holy Communion fee.

If you have any further questions please contact me, Leslie McGowan, at leslie@sttheresachurch.com.
